Half Way There

Bethany

Good morning praying friends, this morning (Wednesday June 7) Joshua and Alex left for round 3 of treatments. Our hearts and minds are heavy for the separation again, but encouraged that we are past the half way mark now!

The past two weeks have gone smoothly with his health and recovery. He did have to have a unit of blood at his first clinic visit after his last discharge, but that was more to get ahead of the game because we were heading into a holiday weekend and they wanted him to be steady. He had two small nosebleeds during the out weeks, but not bad by comparison. His energy popped back pretty quickly this time, and his coloring is getting closer to normal as well. All very encouraging as we head into this round.

We were blessed to be able to get away for a few days between clinic visits last week. A friend let us stay at their Airbnb off their home and the boys enjoyed the farm animals. Feeding chickens, sheep, and horses. It was fun for us all!

Recently my daily Bible reading has me going through Hebrews, a rather deep book, but I am reading it more at a surface level since I don’t have the bandwidth to go too deep. I have repeatedly been so encouraged through it. This morning as Caleb played and I did a little reading in Chapter 10, verse 35 really jumped out at me, “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.” It was like a little nudge from the Holy Spirit to not lose hope in the day in day out hard of life, but to remember to hold tight to the confidence I have in His Great Work.

As always, there is so much hard going on around us. We live in a fallen world and there are opportunities all around us to “throw away” our hope and confidence. Let us not lose heart, but as Hebrews 10 also call us to do, “let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works” (vs 24). My challenge to you as you read and to myself as I type is, today how can I “stir up” those around me to love and good works.

Here are a few pictures from our time at the fam. Enjoy!

A few specific requests for the next 6ish days

  • Pray for no hiccups with treatments and for good health for the rest of us

  • Pray for Caleb’s emotions as he processes Joshua being back at the hospital and Alex and I trading out (He has been more stable lately, so praying this round will go well in that area)

  • Pray for good sleep for me as I don’t sleep well when they are gone

  • Pray for social energy and wisdom to know what to say yes to and what to say, lets reschedule

  • Pray for Alex and Joshua as they both have some studying to do during this round in. Alex for upcoming preaching, and Joshua to make a bit more headway in wrapping up 4th grade work.

  • Pray for Truth centered conversations with those that come in and out of Joshua’s room during this stay

A few items of praise

  • We had a message this morning from a family member of someone we met when Joshua was in the PICU and they were encouraging us that our testimony was a blessing to them while we were up there. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness that others see Him in our hard times!

  • My mom (Bethany) was in another area hospital this week, but is headed home now. Praise the Lord that Joshua's round started later this time so I could spend time with her yesterday since Alex and Joshua were home here with Caleb.

  • Recently we received the first installment of reimbursements for much of the out of pocket medical bills we've paid for.
