Roadmaps

Bethany

Plans, we talk about them a lot. Recently it hit me (Bethany) that with the little jaunt we are on with Joshua’s health also makes and follows some plans. They call them the treatment roadmap. In the last update I mentioned that we had been given a time of week last week that we could start talking about discharge. Well, if you haven’t heard yet, we got to do more than talk about discharge, it actually happened on Friday! Praise the Lord!

To be honest, it took us by surprise. Around Wednesday last week, Alex was thinking/hearing maybe discharge would be Monday (May 1st), then a doctor causally mentioned maybe Saturday (April 29), then on Thursday as the doctor talked she said “tomorrow” meaning Friday (April 28). We held that news really lightly, you know the way “our plans” tend to go sometimes, we are learning to not hold to our timeline.

Friday morning Joshua had a procedure and then he had one more medicine that he needed to boost his struggling immune system, then around 4:15 the nurse said, that was the last thing he needed, she'd put in for his discharge papers!!!

After over 6 weeks in the hospital he had accumulated a good bit of stuff, thankfully we had been taking loads home little by little all week, so the last of it was able to fit in the car. It was like packing up a hotel room after a long stay, thankfully we have a bit experience with that!

Here is the link to the little going home video Alex made, if you haven’t seen it yet. You can view it, even if you don’t have a facebook account. When it comes up and asks you to log in, just select cancel and it will still take you to the video.

So back to the roadmap. Joshua has a treatment roadmap. Honestly we are a bit fuzzy on it since the first pre-chemo round was a bit hi-jacked by other acute issues. What we do know is that he has officially completed round 1, he has clinic visits twice a week for the next two weeks and then will go back to check into the hospital on May 15th for round 2, which should last about 8 days. Then we will go from there. There will be either two or three more rounds with similar timelines.

I think I mentioned in the last update, that I had been listening to Psalms at night when Alex was at the hospital with Joshua. One night last week two verses stood out to me that maybe I had not noticed before. The next day I went and looked them up. Psalm 20:4 says, May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans! (It even has the exclamation mark). The second was Psalm 41:3 The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health. Now lest you think I’m turning to a name it and claim it type, I share these because they comforted my heart so much, that nestled in the big book of Psalms, my Heavenly Father reminded me that He’s got this all in his hands. As much as we believe and trust that God orders our steps and plans according to His sovereign will, He also knows our hearts. This morning as we were listening to a study on Esther, our family was again reminded that God orders our steps and plans to accomplish His will.

We appreciate your continued prayers for Joshua’s health. We pray that his clinic visits will go well and that he will not have to check back into the hospital early. If you are local, we’d love to see you, we do need to social distance, good thing we have some experience with that too! We can visit from the garage, but we do need some social interaction! If you are not local, but would like to video call sometime, we’d love that as well!

Thank you to the many of you who have showered our boys with books or Lego, they are really enjoying them, we do ask that if you’d like to still bless them, we have an opportunity on Tuesday to pay it forward a bit through blessing Happy Wheels through a local giving campaign. Look out for a special email about that on Tuesday morning.

Again, thank you for your love and support, keep it up and we’ll keep you all updated as we know more from week to week.
